General
ING’s Enterprise Risk Management model (ERM) refers to the end-to-end process for managing all non-financial risks, financial risks and strategic risks across the bank. The model has the objective of enabling the bank to stay within the risk appetite in the most efficient way with a minimum of operational losses. It ranges from the translation of the bank’s risk appetite into policies and controls until final assurance and sign-off of the bank’s risk & control effectiveness.

Your role and work environment
The Global Risk & Control Center of Expertise (CoE) is responsible for leading the integration and the simplification of the existing non-financial risk control frameworks in close cooperation with business management and the Risk function (2nd Line). The CoE ( 1st Line function) is also responsible for supporting and challenging the Centers of Excellence on Risk & Control Management across ING and its stakeholders in adapting to the Target Operating Model. You will furthermore act as a catalyst between Centers of Excellence on Control Management and its stakeholders to achieve defined control management objectives and specific goals.

You will be operating in the very heart of the ING Bank COO organisation, based in the IBSS organisation in Bratislava. You will hierarchically report to the Head of Operational Excellence (who is based in Bratislava) and functionally to the ERM Center of Expertise lead, who is based in Amsterdam.

The complexity of the assignments and the international setting requires for you to cooperate in and with the international network of ING. No day will be the same!

In this position:
  • You will manage a diverse team of approximately 7 members consisting of risk & control experts. This team will work closely together with the experts based in Amsterdam (distributed squad / center of excellence);
  • Your primary responsibility is to facilitate, support and motivate your team members;
  • You effectively manage the transition of your team to ING’s One Agile Way of Working;
  • You create, together with our Agile coaches, a high-performing squad and remove any impediments;
  • You support the development and craftsmanship of the squad team members;
  • You ensure the squad members feel involved and valued and are prepared to continue their personal development;
  • You align with your functional leads to ensure we are aligned both from a demand (outbound) as well as supply view (inbound);
  • You spend a substantial part of your time working as team member and practicing the craft (team backlog), and
  • You will set the standards for assigned area(s) of expertise and are responsible for developing, innovating and safeguarding related knowledge and expertise.

Proven track record and technical skills:
  • Have an academic degree and preferably in the possession of a certification in Internal Control / Administrative Organisation;
  • Have 6 to 10 years relevant work experience in the areas of Wholesale Banking, Retail Banking, Risk, Finance or Information technology;
  • Have (international) experience in complex organisations (a bird’s eye view and knowledge of ING’s business processes, risks and associated controls is a big advantage);
  • Are persuasive; being able to ‘get people on board’ and ensure necessary buy-in from stakeholders;
  • Have proven communication, convincing and advisory skills with the ability to work at all levels in the organisation (a track record in project management is advantageous);
  • Are fluent in English;
  • You are professionally sceptic, knowledgeable and solution oriented;
  • Are a hands-on team player,
  • Are willing to travel more than 8-12 weeks per year.
